Lunenburg’s sailing ambassador is back in port.
Picton Castle was on its way to Bermuda when a mechanical issue forced the ship to turn around.
Chief Operations Officer Maggie Ostler says they were about a day away when the problem was discovered.
“Being winter in the North Atlantic, we decided that wasn’t really the place to hang out and try and figure out what the problem was. So Picton Castle turned around.”
Ostler says the problem is minor.
“It was a small leak in a hose. We just had to figure out where the leak was. It related to part of the main engine. It was just a little bit tricky to troubleshoot exactly where the problem was.”
She says it was minor enough that in warmer weather the ship likely would’ve continued and made repairs at its next port.
Ostler says repairs have been completed and she expects Picton Castle will be on it’s way to Bermuda by the weekend.
