Work to renovate the Mill Building on Shelburne’s waterfront has begun.
While the entire project won’t be complete for a bit, it’s hoped enough work will be done for the Tall Ships visit next month.
It is one of the oldest wooden shipbuilding sites in Canada.
The Tall Ships arrive August 14 and 15 and Mayor Karen Mattatall says visitors will be able to have a peak into the past.
‘We’re hoping to have where people can look through mesh doors or windows and see some of the equipment. It features the original shaft, belt powered machinery and moulding loft. It’s a beautiful, beautiful building. It’s something that when people, once they are able to go in, they’ll really see and get a feel for how these massive wooden ships were built.”
A new roof and windows have been installed at the historic Mill Building.
