With a winter storm on the way tomorrow, burning restrictions are likely the last thing on people’s minds.
But the official start of Nova Scotia’s wildfire risk season is just days away.
The Department of Natural Resource’s ‘Check Before You Burn’ campaign starts Thursday.
John Ross, Director of Forest Protection, says they’re anticipating an early start to the season..
“Because of the fact that we have not had much snow this past winter. That means that things are going to dry out quicker and the grasses and some of the fine fuels will dry out quicker.”
The burning restriction information on the BurnSafe map is also available, in a recorded message, by calling toll-free, 1-855-564-2876 (B-U-R-N).

People should also check municipal bylaws as their rules may vary.
Burning restrictions apply until October 15.
