This would have to be one of my favorite times of the year for star gazing. Warm enough to lie back on the grass and some of the best views of the year. Two of my annual highlights always happen around the same time each August and it always made for a natural fireworks show. Of course this year is different as 2020 has proved to be nothing like a normal year. CoVid-19 may have cancelled one of my August highlights as Riverfest 2020 can’t happen this year, but the other is happening. The Perseids Meteor shower will actually reach its peak tomorrow. That said, the falling stars will continue after that, but on “Tuesday, August 11, during which time skywatchers can see dozens of meteors per hour”
The Perseid meteor shower, which NASA says is the best of the year, peaks on Tuesday.
Not all the highlights in the August sky are falling. I was reading an article about Mars being as bright as a second moon this month. That might be an exaggeration, but it will be very visible along with other planets. Here is a guide to help you navigate the August sky.
