If you are one of those folks that relies on a cell phone for your wake up “call” alarm, if that phone is still a Blackberry, you might end up sleeping in today.
Yesterday the Canadian company pulled the support plug on Blackberry. I was not a big fan when it came to using those phones, but I have to say it was cool to see Canada have a notable spot in the tech world. I used to sell these devices when I worked for Bell and it seems this company tried everything. They were always billed as the ‘most secure’ device. Even Barack Obama fought to keep his Blackberry when he became the US president for that very reason. I remember when the device famous for still having buttons in a touchscreen world, developed a couple touchscreen versions. Thought it was funny that a Canadian company had the ZEE 10 and not the ZED 10.
Blackberry even convinced Apple to recognize BBM messenger, but nothing seemed to work and yesterday was the last day for your Blackberry to be reliable.
End of an era as Canadian tech company discontinues support for its namesake smartphone
As this article talks about, most of the devices affected by this are quite old, but if you have one, a trip to the phone store for a HUG (Hardware Up Grade) should be planned.
