I am not sure if it was because no power was less of a big deal when I was a kid, or maybe it really didn’t go out as often. Seems like we are in darkness a lot more than we used to be. It might be because power outages seem more troublesome when you have young kids. I remember one Christmas a few years ago we sat in the dark for a night by the fireplace with a flashlight shining on the tree and didn’t think too much about it, but that was before having children.
So how do you prepare for the loss of electricity?
It is probably different if you live in the country. I know a lot of people on town systems don’t see as much of a drastic change as you still have water. That is always a big thing in our house, the loss of water with the loss of power. The bathtub gets filled in preparation on days like this when storms are forecasted. That gives a few flushes anyway. But what else do you need to be concerned about?
