West Nova’s Member of Parliament is banned from entering Russia.
Chris d’Entremont is one of 313 Canadians not allowed to go to the country, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
d’Entremont says he found it kind of funny.
“My first comment was, ‘well I guess I’m not going to be travelling to Russia anytime soon.’ But at the same time, we understand the geo-political situation that we find ourselves in,” says d’Entremont.
He says as the world is pushing down on Russia to get them out of Ukraine, economic sanctions are starting to effect them.
“Canada is seen as one of those supporters of Ukraine. Of course, the Russians will look at our members of parliament, and try to sanction them however they can.”
The list includes Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and almost every sitting MP.
d’Entremont says his party wants to make sure humanitarian lines are open, so that food and supplies can easily get into Ukraine.
