It is going to be a weekend full of entertainment!
Last night I was honored to be the MC at the Main Stage tent for the opening night of the Folk Harbour Festival in Lunenburg. Holy incredible performances!
We kicked things off with the South Shore’s own Caribou Run and never looked back, until we reached the last set of the night. Terra Spencer and Les Fireflies delighted the crowd with their talent. J.P. Cormier brought laughs and impressed the crowd with his guitar skills until intermission. As the siblings from the rock, the Ennis Sisters, were wrapping a fantastic set, we were still waiting on our final act. So they stayed on for an encore tune. While that was happening in the backstage area there was much discussion as to who would head to the stage next as the final act had still not arrived. Luckily this was happening at Folk Harbour where there is always a lot of incredibly talented folks hanging around. A bandmate of the scheduled performer, Quinn took to the stage for a tune. Then Dave Gunning grabbed a guitar and offered up a few tunes including one with Terra Spencer. Les Fireflies returned to the stage for a couple tunes and wrapping up the night was Mike Brunelle from Caribou Run playing a couple of original tunes, solo on stage.
Without a doubt there was disappointment amongst the crowd that the scheduled Cape Breton fiddler was a no show, but in his absence, they were treated to one of the most authentic folk sets ever in the main stage tent. It was certainly the most interesting gig I have MC’d in a long time. After the adventurous first night, the 37thg Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival is all set for an amazing weekend in the beautiful town.
Now this is not the only big show happening this weekend. The second big event is being held at the Fox Mountain Camping Park in Aylesford.
The Fox Mountain Country Music Festival has another stellar lineup this year. A guy that has been having a busy 2022, Chris Cummings will headline tonight with Lisa Brokop ready to wow the audience tomorrow evening.
Camping and tickets are still available for this year’s event. Hope to see you in the crowd tonight!
As you plan for a weekend music event this weekend, or through the summer, here are some good suggestions for what you need to comfortably enjoy. I will add to these items listed a sweater as last night things actually got a bit chilly in Lunenburg before the night ended. Have fun!
