Monday night there will be reflective costumes on trick-or-treaters as the travel around gathering candy and other goodies for Halloween. What about this Friday, will you be dawning hunter orange?
This Friday morning is the start of this year’s “General Deer Season”. That means at the crack of dawn hunters will take to the woods hoping to get a shot at the big one. Not only for the enjoyment of time spent in the great outdoors, but to also for bragging rights and to cut down on this winter’s food cost.
I can tell you as I again had to swerve for some venison on the way in this morning and had three deer standing in what should have been this years garden watching me in the yard last night… I hope the hunters have a successful year.
I saw this ‘hunting adventure’ offered online and thought to myself, I could offer this and you would not have to leave my deck, haha. At this price, we could build a bigger deck LOL.

Hunting season also means an adjustment in attire to ensure that you are safe when you are out in the woods. Since not all hunters follow the rules, basically when you are outside it is a good idea to have bright colours on.
More than once I have had to chase hunters off the field away from the cattle. Before you call me names for doing such a thing, a fenced field is not a permitted spot to hunt.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW IF YOU ARE HUNTING IN NOVA SCOTIA!
Hunter Orange is the official safest colour to have on and mandatory if you are out hunting to allow other hunters to see you. It is also recommended if you are working or walking in the woods during hunting season (Oct 28 – Dec 3 ).
They mentioned hunting dogs wearing hunter orange, but what about pets? I guess the thought is that pets would stay close to home where hunting is not permitted. But, if you are wanting to be sure, there are lots of options for pet visibility outfits for fall.
Now if you think that hunter orange is not really needed if you are not actually hunting, check out this video comparing colours.
Whether you are hunting, or just out enjoying the fall colours, stay safe.
