I will never forget as a kid, running to the window to see what vehicle would be racing by whenever you heard a siren approaching. Growing up on Trunk 10 sirens were not uncommon. To this day the sound of a siren will cause curiosity and now I see my kids trying to see where the noise is coming from, just like my sister and I used to. The thing that I do find a lot harder to get used to is a siren/alarm that comes from my pocket.
Today that should happen this afternoon as the Alert Ready Emergency Alert System conducts a test at 1:55pm.
Alert Ready is Canada’s Emergency Alerting System
Now we have heard this system used a few times over the past couple months and each time the alert does go off I hear of a few folks that didn’t receive it. So what could be the reason you don’t get the alert? No it doesn’t mean that you are the slowest friend being sacrificed so the rest of the group can run from the danger, haha.
Some of the suggested reasons why you don’t get the alert on your wireless device, you need to make sure your device meet these three requirements:
- A wireless public alerting (WPA) compatible device, capable of connecting to an LTE network
- Equipped with the latest operating software
- Connected to an LTE cellular network at the time the emergency alert.
Today will be the perfect time to ensure you are connected.
