I feel since this is “Robbie Burns Day” when it is recommended that you wash down your haggis with scotch… seems like an appropriate time to look at the new alcohol consumption guidelines suggested for Canadians. Over the past few years alcohol consumption seems to have increased and things like home delivery has certainly made this easier. With the new guidelines, that case of beer will last a month and a half, a bottle of wine over two weeks.
It has been a long tradition that country music and alcohol has a close connection. From the “Mountain Dew” and “White Lightening” of the past to the beer and whiskey mentioned in many of today’s tunes. Alcohol has given us racing on land and sea and can you imagine the old cowboy movies without a shot of whiskey at the bar.
Well there is also a downside to alcohol consumption and that is what has prompted a change to the recommended consumption guidelines. The old suggestion of a drink a day has been significantly decrease in this latest recommendation. This is the guideline for the USA, and was similar to former Canadian recommendations.
Dietary Guidelines for Alcohol
But now we have the NEW suggested acceptable guide to alcohol consumption.
to minimize the risk associated with drinking, the CCSA recommends consuming no more than two alcoholic drinks per week, a dramatic reduction from the previous cap of 15 drinks for men and 10 drinks for women.
Just to put this in perspective. I was talking with a friend about it the other night and if you were to open a bottle of wine, that would be approximately five drinks. So you would be sipping on that bottle for two and a half weeks. Take a look at the details:
