The days might be getting longer, but the weekend forecast is predicting things will get a lot colder!
Cold weather I can deal with, just add layers. But the up and down temperatures can be a real pain to deal with.
A freeze up would be nice. Ice to skate on, firm roads to haul firewood and to have a frozen driveway to plow whatever snow might come our way before winter finally ends, but I doubt that will happen. The way things look this morning, we will go from +2 with a chance of showers on Friday, to -25 in a matter of hours as a “Polar Vortex” moves in.
Polar vortex may bring Eastern Canada’s coldest temperatures in years
So this shock will require stoking the fire and maybe pulling out the heated blanket as well.
The worst part I find with quick freezing temperatures, car doors! I remember when I was working in Truro, I ended up walking to the radio station at -18 when I couldn’t get the door open on my old Buick. Froze solid!
With possible showers to -25 temperatures, that could make Saturday morning a challenge to get in your vehicle if you don’t winterize. With the mild winter this might have slipped your mind and if you have a garage or a car starter, it is probably not an issue. But for those of us with cars outside… I am not interested in spending a cold morning trying to thaw my way into the cold car.
Here are a few options of things you can do leading up to the deep freeze to help the situation.
How to Prevent Car Doors From Freezing Shut
I heard some folks talking about the cold weather being predicted and comparing it to a movie from almost twenty years ago, “The Day After Tomorrow“. I don’t think it will be this severe, but just in case, “don’t let the fire go out!”
