Back after a few “vacation” days, what a perfect time of year. Aside from the mud, the flies are still asleep, mosquitoes are not out yet and as nature starts to wake up, the weather has been quite nice.
As the sun warms up, gardeners get excited to dig and adventurers start thinking about hitting the road.
This summer will be a bit different on the South Shore when it comes to where to turn for adventure ideas. Now of course during the past few years, the idea of going into a location for maps and day trip ideas was not something we could do. Prior to that though, the Tourist Bureau, or Visitor Information Centre was always a good go to for ideas and details about the area. Well, like many things, this is changing and the idea of a physical go to location for someone visiting the area is no more.
Dear Jonathan,
I am reaching out to inform tourism operators within the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg of the recent changes regarding the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) located in Blockhouse.
On April 30, 2023, the lease for the VIC located at 125 Cornwall Road, Blockhouse is set to expire. The decision has been made to let the current lease expire and provide visitor information to travellers and locals in a new way.
Tourism Ambassadors will be traveling throughout the Municipality and adjoining areas providing information to visitors, focusing on having a presence at events and locations where people gather. Keep an eye out for our pop-up mobile tent throughout the summer and feel free to come introduce yourself!
In addition, we will be working on a new tourism brand and website that highlights our tourism operators, natural assets, and provides information in a modern and user-friendly format.
Although we will not be operating out of a brick-and-mortar Visitor Information Centre I want to assure you we are still here to support your business and will continue to promote the area and the beautiful assets we have to offer.
We are looking forward to the upcoming visitor season!Regards,
Ruth Wawin, Tourism & Events Development Officer
Denise Penney, Visitor Services Manager
I always enjoyed dropping into their location, but now interested to see what resources will look like online.
Just to be curious, I searched for things you need to do in the area. Tripadvisor offered up some ideas of what people need to experience while visiting the area.
Things to Do in Nova Scotia South Shore
Be sure to watch for the tourism display as you take in events this summer.
