There will be two mayoral races to watch in the Quad Counties as municipal elections are set for October.
Port Hawkesbury has three candidates vying for the role, including current councillor Jason Aucoin, incumbent Brenda Chisholm-Beaton and Archie MacLellan.
Meantime, in the Town of Antigonish, current councillor Sean Cameron is being challenged by Emilie Chiasson.
There are 20 candidates running in the County of Antigonish (warden system), not including acclamations in three districts. The municipality operates under a warden system, which is chosen after the election by the new council.
The CSAP seat is between Francine Clement-Fraser and Remi Deveau.
In Guysborough (warden system), there’s one race to watch as current as Vernon Pitts is being contested by Susan Cashin in District 6. Pitts is the warden and a long time municipal politician.
All other districts will be represented by their current councillors by acclamation.
The sitting warden in Richmond County will be contested in the district, as Amanda Mombourquette is running against Gilbert Boucher.
In Inverness County (warden system), Bonny MacIssac will be elected via acclimation. She is the current warden and that position will be determined by the new elected council. John MacLennan and Blair Phillips will also return to council and are acclaimed.
The Town of Mulgrave will not have any elections as the entire council and mayor went uncontested. Ron Chisholm will serve as their mayor for another four years.
The municipal election will be held on Saturday, October 19.
