A long-term infrastructure project is set to begin on Empire Street in Bridgewater, impacting traffic flow and public access throughout the coming months.
The work, taking place between York Street and High Street, involves significant upgrades to water and wastewater systems. According to the Town of Bridgewater, the project will start on Monday, May 5, and is expected to last several months.
Local traffic, including access to the Bridgewater Memorial Arena, the Interchurch Food Bank, and nearby residences, will be maintained throughout construction. However, the public should be prepared for weekday traffic delays and temporary impacts to curbside parking along Empire Street.
Because the work area overlaps with the traditional parade route, organizers have been advised to use a temporary detour. This year’s suggested route will begin in the High Street area and travel via Dominion and York before rejoining the main parade path at York and Empire, below the construction zone. A map of the adjusted route is available at bridgewater.ca/roads.
Once completed, the project will include a newly paved road surface, improving driving conditions in the area.
