Bridgewater Police are urging residents to be cautious after reports of a new scam circulating in the area.
Some residents have received text messages claiming they owe money for unpaid parking tickets or passes. The message then prompts the recipient to take action and make a payment. Police say these texts are fraudulent and should not be trusted.
“The Town of Bridgewater does not send text messages to collect outstanding fines,” police said in a statement. “Neither the Town nor Bridgewater Police Service would ever request payment this way.”
Officials are advising anyone who receives one of these messages to avoid clicking links or responding. Instead, they should mark the message as spam, delete it, and block the sender’s number.
