The province’s Justice minister says online misinformation about two missing Pictou County children can be harmful.
Lilly and Jack Sullivan, four and six years old, went missing in Landsdowne Station two weeks ago, searchers scaled back their operations last week.
After cabinet, minister Becky Druhan asked Nova Scotians to be kind.
“It’s harmful to the families and communities who are trying to work their way through a very traumatic event. I want to encourage people to be kind,” said Druhan.
She says if you any information that could lead to tips about their whereabouts or any information in the case, reach out to RCMP.
Druhan thanks all police and first responders for their work, and said there are resources for those targeted online.
“If folks are concerned about misinformation being shared about themselves or others, we do have a structure in Nova Scotia under the cyberprotection act to address that.”
In the latest RCMP update this week, they say the children were reported missing at about 10 a.m. on May 2.
The parents say they wandered away from their home on Gairloch Road, near Lansdowne Station, Pictou County.
The police are still investigating their disappearance, including following up on more than 180 tips they’ve received from the public, according to an RCMP news release.
They have also “so far identified 35 people for formal interviews as part of the investigation.” That includes people from the community and those closest to the children.
On May 8 and 9, the RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team scoured different bodies of water near Lansdowne Station. They did not find any evidence over those two days, the release said.
