The province wants its 13,000 kilometres of shoreline to be free of debris.
Funding is now available for seafood, sportfishing and community groups to take on shoreline cleanup projects.
Up to $2,000 per event is available for the cleanups, along with half of eligible costs for litter prevention and recycling programs.
Kelly Mackarous with the Bluenose Coastal Action Foundation says they’ve been able to take on a wide range of projects through the funding, including removing marine debris.
Fisheries minister Kent Smith says clean coastlines benefit local communities and enhance our reputation of high quality seafood products.
Funding is now available for shoreline cleanups, litter prevention, and marine debris recycling through the Marine Debris Clean-up Program.
