Good morning and welcome to the shortest day of our lives, so far.
When people say time flies, today the Earth is saying “You haven’t seen anything yet!”
This is not the normal thing where time passes faster as you get older… even though it does seem to. Our planet is actually spinning faster for a few days this summer and today is the fastest.
Slight fluctuations in the Earth’s rotation are common, but today we see the shortest day since records started to be kept in the 1970s. This is one of three days over the next couple weeks to be shorter than our normal 24 hours.
Today will be the shortest day in history as Earth’s rotation unexpectedly speeds up
Remember today along with July 22 and August 5 are predicted to be the shortest days of 2025. Just a fraction shorter than 24 hours, but still shorter.
So if you have a busy day planned, you may have to take less of a break, or go to bed just a bit later to make up for today’s faster spinning world.
