The South Shore Lumberjacks are off to a strong start this season, heading into their home opener this weekend with a chance to remain undefeated.
The team is currently 3-0 and will first face the Capstone Colts in Shearwater Friday night in a rematch of last year’s finals, before returning home to host the Brookfield Elks Saturday at 7 p.m.
Owner Jim Bottomley said the hot start has set the tone for what he hopes will be a special year.
“We’ve had a great start … we got a few more boys from Bridgewater and that certainly helped. We hope to take Friday’s game and come back home on a perfect record and be ready to go on Saturday night,” he said.
Bottomley said fans can expect the usual opening-night excitement, with player introductions and recognition for several hometown players who came up through Bridgewater’s minor hockey system.
“Anytime you can get local kids, quality kids like we’ve got this year, it’s always a bonus. But the first priority is providing our fans with a team that has a chance to win,” he said.
The Lumberjacks are also still hoping to add a mascot to their game-day experience, with Bottomley noting they are still seeking an enthusiastic volunteer to fill the role.
