The Region of Queens Municipality has ended the well-filling service offered through the Liverpool Fire Department as part of ongoing water conservation efforts.
The decision comes after the municipality issued a voluntary conservation directive.
The water used by the fire department to fill wells and bulk tanks came from the Region of Queens Water Utility, which supplies customers in Liverpool and Brooklyn.
Although that service is ending, the municipality says it’s working to make sure residents still have access to essential water needs. Free potable water is available at the Cowie Well on Main Street in Liverpool.
Showers can be booked at Queens Place Emera Centre in Brooklyn by calling 902-354-4422, and both Coastal Queens Place and the West Queens Recreation Association in Port Mouton are offering potable water and showers, which can be booked at 902-220-4062 and 902-683-2960 respectively.
The municipality says it’s continuing to set up more locations for potable and non-potable water and will post updates on its website and Facebook page as new options become available.
