Nova Scotia’s government is offering a largely positive response to Prime Minister Mark Carney’s first federal budget, saying it sees the plan as one that prioritizes innovation, growth, and opportunity for the province.
In a statement Tuesday, Minister of Finance and Treasury Board John Lohr congratulated the Prime Minister on introducing a budget that he says “aims to improve productivity and make our economy more innovative.”
Lohr noted that the province says it’s encouraged by Ottawa’s focus on sectors that are key to Nova Scotia’s economic future — including defence, critical minerals, energy, and fisheries — as well as the federal government’s renewed commitments to healthcare infrastructure, housing, and development.
Officials also noted the mention of Wind West, the proposed offshore wind development project, calling it a promising step toward the province’s long-term goal of becoming “an energy superpower.”
They said they look forward to seeing the project included in the next round of major project approvals.
Nova Scotia’s government added that it welcomes federal extensions of investment tax credits and support for trade, saying it will continue to work with Ottawa to ensure the new budget delivers results for Nova Scotians.
“Our goal remains the same: to create more economic opportunities for Nova Scotians by turning our province into an energy superpower,” Lohr said in his statement.
