Bridgewater Mayor David Mitchell has been elected as the new Board President of the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities (NSFM).
Delegates from across the province selected Mitchell during NSFM’s annual fall conference in Halifax this week. He succeeds Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood, who completed her term as president.
Mitchell has served as mayor of Bridgewater since 2016 and has been a strong voice for municipal collaboration, housing policy reform, and sustainable community planning. In his new role, he’ll lead the organization’s board of directors and guide its advocacy work on behalf of all municipalities in Nova Scotia.
The NSFM represents 49 municipalities across the province, providing a unified voice on key issues such as infrastructure funding, climate adaptation, and rural development.
In a post shared by NSFM, the organization congratulated Mitchell, saying his “proven leadership and passion for strengthening communities” will help guide their continued advocacy efforts.
The NSFM fall conference brings together local government leaders to discuss shared challenges and opportunities, from affordable housing and coastal protection to municipal-federal partnerships.
