Yesterday I delivered the Country 100.7 Wednesday Chowdown Delivery from Arby’s in Bridgewater. Just like any other week I was happy to treat a smiling workplace with a delicious free lunch. That lead to a chat with the communications person from the Lapland Fire Dept. We were discussing the proposed changes coming to the province around fire departments, and wow, a lot of changes.
I did some digging into the study and proposal. Here is a link to the over 50 page report, take a look:

There is a lot of the conversation online around how the fire service in rural areas could be adjusted when the new rules come into effect.
Some of the things mentioned are an end to fundraising. That saddens me as the Walden Volunteer Fire Department Bash is a not to be missed summer activity on our family to do list. Also the Fire Fighters 50/50 keeps us hopeful of a big win each week.
Looking at the discussions it sounds like an increase in required training for volunteers could add to the current need for more people to get involved in their local volunteer fire departments.
Many of our volunteer fire departments have chimed in on the proposed changes and this was posted by the Cornwall Fire Dept to explain a bit about what the future could look like.
This is definitely something that I hope in the end will all work out so if there is a day that we have to call 911, we know the dedicated community protectors will still be able to show up and hopefully save the day like they always have.
