The South Shore Lumberjacks are hitting the ice tonight to start their 2025–26 Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League campaign.
Their first test is a familiar rival — the East Hants Penguins — a team the Lumberjacks have eliminated from the playoffs the last two years. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. in Lantz.
The Lumberjacks will be on the road for several games to begin the season. They head to Cape Breton on September 20 to face the Jr. Miners, then visit the Strait Pirates in Port Hawkesbury the next afternoon. On September 26, they take on the Capstone Colts in Shearwater.
Fans on the South Shore will have their first chance to see the team at home on September 27, when the Brookfield Elks visit the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre. That game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Lumberjacks are looking to build on last season’s playoff run, and early matchups against long-time opponents are expected to set the tone for the year.
