Robert Munsch, the Canadian author behind beloved children’s books like Love You Forever and The Paper Bag Princess, has been approved for medical assistance in dying (MAID).
In a profile published by The New York Times, Munsch said he applied for MAID after being diagnosed with dementia in 2021.
The 80-year-old writer has not yet set a date but said he wants to avoid prolonged suffering, influenced by watching a brother die of Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Munsch has written more than 70 books, selling millions of copies worldwide and inspiring generations of readers. His stories, often based on real children he met during school visits, have been translated into 20 languages.
