Sarah Mitton of Liverpool, N.S., narrowly missed the podium at the World Athletics Championships, finishing fourth in the women’s shot put.
Mitton’s top throw of the competition was strong enough to keep her in the hunt but ultimately left her just outside the medals.
The result caps a season where she continued to show consistency and progress, even if it wasn’t the finish she hoped for.
In a post on Instagram, Mitton called it a bittersweet way to close out the year. “Such a privilege to be dissatisfied with a 4th place finish because [coach Richard Parkinson] and I know there is so much more that I haven’t been able to capture yet,” she wrote.
She said she was proud of how she competed, “attacking every throw and giving it my all… no fear,” but acknowledged that “it just wasn’t enough tonight.”
Despite missing the podium, Mitton pointed to the steady level of her performance as a sign of progress. She also thanked her supporters and coaching team.
Mitton, who earlier this year defended her indoor world title in Nanjing, remains ranked among the best in the world and says she is already looking ahead to bigger goals in seasons to come.
