The Town of Bridgewater is warning residents and businesses to prepare for possible service disruptions if municipal workers proceed with strike action.
Unionized staff with CUPE 1092 recently voted unanimously in favour of a strike, though no job action has been initiated as negotiations continue.
The union represents Town of Bridgewater and Public Service Commission employees.
According to the town, essential services such as water treatment, wastewater, solid waste collection, fire, police, and transit would continue without interruption. Contractor-led capital projects, like the LaHave Street/Veterans Memorial Bridge turning lane and the Empire Street project, would also proceed.
However, several services could face slower response times, including fire flow testing, new water and wastewater connections, cemetery burials, and parks maintenance such as mowing, trimming, and waste removal.
Other services would be temporarily unavailable if a strike occurs. That list includes road sweeping, parking station repairs, light repairs, catch basin cleaning, curb cuts, vegetation management, dock removals, and routine meter reading.
Town officials say this is not an exhaustive list, and more impacts may be added if strike action is taken. Residents with questions about potential disruptions can contact Town Hall or use the Worker Bee portal.
