A Nova Scotia pilot is showing his love for the Toronto Blue Jays in a way few fans could — by tracing the team’s logo across the sky.
Dimitri Neonakis, who has become well-known for creating artwork in the air with his flight paths, took to the skies this week to draw the Blue Jays logo ahead of the team’s playoff matchup against the Seattle Mariners.
“I don’t usually do these flights a lot — I’ve done about 25 in the last five years,” Neonakis said. “I do them to either support the community or raise awareness, like when we had missing children, I went up and drew their names in the sky.”
He said this flight was different — a way to send good luck to his favourite team. “This was, you know, my favourite Blue Jays, my favourite baseball team,” he said. “To wish them good luck in Seattle. I know they were down two-nothing, and I’m a firm believer of never give up. So I got up there and I drew it.”
The route, captured by flight tracking sites, took about two and a half hours to complete and formed a near-perfect replica of the Blue Jays logo, complete with the maple leaf. Neonakis said this one wasn’t easy.
“This was probably one of the hardest ones,” he said. “I’ve done one with the muskets, but this one was a little more intricate with a lot of cornering — especially the Canadian maple leaf as part of the logo. It was smaller, and that made it more difficult to fly.”
The pilot, who gained national attention after drawing a heart in the sky over Portapique following the 2020 mass shooting, said he’s not sure whether he’ll make another Blue Jays design if the team advances.
“I think I’ve done my job to cheer on the Blue Jays,” he said with a laugh. “I’ll be cheering them from home.”
