A sentencing hearing is underway for Tracy Kitch, the former CEO of Halifax’s IWK Health Centre, following her second conviction for fraud over $5,000 related to personal expenses charged to a corporate credit card.
According to Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service they proceeded with a retrial after Kitch’s initial 2022 conviction and five-month sentence were set aside by the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal.
That led to a new trial and a September 2025 decision that found guilty, describing Kitch’s conduct as dishonest and depriving the hospital of funds intended for mothers and children.
During the retrial, the prosecution estimated more than $30,000 in personal spending while Kitch was CEO between 2014 and 2017, including travel using hospital resources; repayment occurred after she was confronted.
At the sentencing hearing, the Crown asked for nine months in custody and 24 months of probation, along with an order restricting positions that involve authority over money or property.
According to the Public Prosecution Service, a decision hearing is scheduled for February 4, when the court is expected to deliver the sentence.
