Lunenburg is showing support for its sister city of Gloucester, Massachusetts, after the tragic loss of the seven crew members aboard the fishing vessel Lily Jean.
The town has lowered Gloucester’s flag to half‑mast, and Mayor Jamie Myra placed flowers at the Fishermen’s Memorial to honour the lives lost.
The Lily Jean sank about 50 kilometres off Cape Ann after issuing an emergency beacon on Friday morning.
Rescue crews recovered debris, an empty life raft and one body before the U.S. Coast Guard suspended the search and declared all seven on board presumed dead.
