Nova Scotia’s Opposition House Leader says the Liberals have created a chaotic health care system.
Argyle-Barrington MLS Chris d’Entremont says paramedics are doing their best.
He says the EHS base is often empty as units and staff are sent to cover other areas or are tied up at hospitals.
d’Entremont says there have been a couple of cases where people have had to wait up to 30 minutes for an ambulance.
“One was a senior with shortness of breath and the other had fallen in a parking lot. The community continues to be concerned about response times in the area. The paramedics are working hard and doing the best they can in a chaotic situation. But paramedics and ambulances seem to be out of the area more than they’re in the area. This is unacceptable. The community has had enough.”
d’Entremont has tabled a petition in the House containing over 500 signatures.
“The petition asks specifically to review the service in the area, to review the response times and provide it to the community and to make it better. What is needed and what we asked of the minister was to do this and be conscious of the challenges. The minister, (Randy Delorey) did say that he would look into it, yet I don’t expect a whole lot.”
