The former Bowater-Mersey paper mill in Nova Scotia’s Queens County closed for good in 2012. Hundreds of people lost their jobs. As the community still recovers, who’d ever think there would be priceless art work in the mill’s offices. The Queens County Museum’s director Linda Rafuse says it’s aquired a valued collection of artifacts. She tells us: “They did gather a number of pieces of art work in the administration building. A number of bird carvings and things that were still original with the mill.” Rafuse also says Bowater’s 83 year history forms an important part of the heritage of Queens County. Former employees and the public at large can see the Bowater Collection up close and personal when it opens for viewing in November. The date will be announced soon.
