The South Shore Regional Centre for Education is buzzing ahead of another school year.
Staff remain in place, but this is the first school year without a school board since they were dissolved by the province earlier this year.
School Advisory Councils will now work to fill the void left by the board.
SSRCE Executive Director Scott Milner expects to work closely with School Advisory Councils to meet the needs of students and parents as the year progresses.
“SACs are in place now in every one of our schools. We just have to see in the new handbook if there’s a change in some responsibilities. Minister Churchill is really excited about the fact that the SACs will be able to support our schools.”
This is the first year preparations are being made without a school board.
Milner says everything they do is aimed at meeting their primary goal.
“Definitely focusing on students. If we focus on our core business then everything else will fall in place. We are still in that change mode, but if we communicate and solve problem together, we’ll move forward.”
Milner says Student Advisory Committees are the voice of local communities.
