Another scorcher of a day with the humidex reaching 28 degrees Celsius today and getting even warmer as we near the weekend. Nothing feels better that getting out of the sun and enjoying some shade, unless there is air conditioning that is. But, can you get too much of this cool comfort? According to some experts, too much exposure to cold air conditioning can cause your body to have difficulty regulating it’s temperature when you go outside. That is one of the dangers associated with enjoying the cool air during the hot summer weather. Here are a few more things to think of.

Now in no way am I trying to say that AC is a bad thing. I will admit that I do find it a bit foolish to see people bundled up in sweaters and covered with blankets in the office when the temperature is in the high twenties outside. After spending the weekend in the hayfield and planning to head back there this afternoon, the cool air feels good. But 22 Celsius is good, 18 degrees is a bit much. That brings up a good point. How cold should you set your air conditioner? The most common answer to that question is 26 degrees … the Department of Energy recommends us to set our thermostats to 78F (26C) to be comfortable.
