After almost being cancelled, community support has made sure Shelburne’s Dock St. Days Parade of Lights will go ahead.
On the evening of July 30th, boat owners will decorate their vessels with lights to sail in a competition along Dock Street, a fireworks show will follow.
Member of the Shelburne Events Committee Val Kean says they reached out to local boat owners to help support the event
“Within hours we had multiple donations for prizes as well as boat registrations,” says Kean “We had a really great response, it really showed that the community wanted this event and we’re excited to step up to help us keep it.”
The committee announced the parade could have been cancelled because of low support. Belong Fisheries then stepped in with a $500 contribution. Members of the community also came forward to donate to the event.
Participants also have the chance to win cash prizes. Kean says the initial prize pot has now grown significantly.
“We’re up to $4000,” says Kean. “We’re going to keep that rolling until July 15th and all the money coming in for the Parade of Lights is going to go back out to everyone that is registered for prizes.”
The committee is still looking for boat owners to participate. Anyone interested can call Marta Stork at 902-875-1212.
