Meetings on offshore wind development are set to be held in southwestern Nova Scotia.
They are intended to serve as consultations for six proposed projects offshore wind farms in our province.
Nova Scotia and federal government has started a regional assessment agency. It is designed to help identify where and how offshore wind projects can be optimally developed, and inform how the sector and projects will be built in the future.
The agency is set to host open-house sessions at the Mariners Centre in Yarmouth from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday and at the Shelburne Community Centre from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
An independent committee tasked with looking into developing offshore wind opportunities has identified six possible locations for projects which will be at least 25 kilometres away from the coast.
- Sydney Bight
- Canso Bank
- Middle Bank
- Sable Island Bank
- Emerald Bank
- the Eastern Shore
Nova Scotia plans to offer leases for five gigawatts of offshore wind energy by 2030.
The public is urged to attend and provide input on the proposed projects. Other meetings will take place in the coming weeks in Guysborough, New Glasgow, Dartmouth and Sheet Harbour.
